About dental implants

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth; they are suitable for most patients and provide the most long-term option for those looking for tooth replacement treatments.

Implants are small posts, which are made from titanium; they are screwed into small sockets in the jaw bone and then left to integrate in a process that is known as osseointegration. The aim of implant treatment is to replace the root of the missing tooth.

Once the implant has integrated into the jaw bone, a new restoration, including a crown, dental bridge or denture, can be attached and the new teeth will function in the same way as natural teeth.

Before implants are fitted, X-rays (or a CT scan) will be ordered to assess the suitability of dental implant treatment.

In addition to traditional dental implants, we also offer implant-retained dentures; these are dentures that are held firmly in place by implants. Implant-retained dentures provide a solution for many of the issues that can occur when wearing dentures; as the denture is secured by the implants, there is no risk of the denture slipping, which reduces the risk of pain and irritation and enables patients to eat a wide range of foods without any worries.
