The magic of dental implants: permanent tooth restoration explored

With dental implants, you can get your beautiful smile back – and so much more besides. At Dublin 18 Dental Rooms our skilled implant dentist can replace anything from one to all of your teeth with dental implants, providing a long-term – even permanent – solution to tooth loss.

The most important thing to remember is that missing teeth should always be promptly replaced, one way or another. At our Dublin Dental Room we believe dental implants are more often than not the best way to do so.

Unlike standard dental bridges, which take support from surrounding teeth and often require the destruction of healthy tooth tissue in order for crowns to be placed on those teeth, an implant-retained bridge will take all the support it needs from your dental implants, meaning that your remaining teeth stay healthy and strong.

Dentures are commonly used in cases of multiple or all missing teeth, but whilst standard dentures replace the crowns of the teeth, they do nothing to replace the roots. This can result in a loss of density in the jaw bone, which in turn makes your dentures loose and increasingly hard to use.

Dental implants solve all of these problems. They are bionic tooth roots that are placed directly in your jaw bone in a minor operation, carried out here in the dentist’s chair at our Dublin clinic. Most people only need local anaesthetic for this procedure, which is often reported as being more bearable than a tooth extraction.

As soon as they are in position, dental implants start to integrate with your jaw bone. This process takes several months to complete, during which time your Dublin dentist may fit temporary teeth, or you may continue to wear your old denture.

Once the process of osseointegration is complete, the dental implants will be as strong and durable as natural tooth roots. You will then be called back to our Dublin Dental Room so that your permanent new teeth – either a single crown, an implant-retained bridge, or a denture – can be fitted.
