At Dublin 18 Dental Rooms, we can offer many orthodontic treatments to adults, including Invisalign Dublin. This nifty and clear aligner has boomed in popularity and is a simple way to straighten your teeth while also being lifestyle friendly. Great!

Here, our team at Dublin 18 Dental Rooms provides a brief guide about how to use Invisalign Dublin and get the straighter smile you want.

Daily use

When you begin using Invisalign Dublin, our team will generally recommend that you keep the aligners in for 22 hours per day.

We also advise that you remove the aligners when you eat food, drink any beverage besides water or when you brush your teeth. When not in your mouth, place the aligners in the carry case provided to keep them safe and damage-free.

Cleaning

You may be wondering if you need to clean your aligners when you use them.

The answer is yes, and it is to reduce the damage caused by plaque and food debris being pushed up against your teeth and gums.

Luckily, as your aligners are made from clear plastic, they are fairly straightforward to clean. Simply rinse them under a cold tap twice a day and use a soft-bristled toothbrush to remove any tough debris. Try not to rinse your aligners under a hot tap, as this can cause them to warp and thus become unusable. Also, don’t use mouthwash to clean them unless advised by our team, as this method can cause staining to occur.

Discomfort

Even in 2021, there is unfortunately still no way to realign teeth without it being a bit uncomfortable. Sorry!

And with invisible aligners, you may notice the slight twinges that accompany the changing of them. To manage this by yourself at home, we recommend taking over-the-counter pain relief. If this doesn’t help, then we advise you to contact us immediately, so we can assess the aligner for correct fit and tracking.

Appointments

You may have read that this particular invisible aligner is accompanied by an app, which allows you to send photos of yourself to the dentist who is overseeing your care. This is a great way to reduce the amount of time you spend in the dental chair.

But remember, with an orthodontic tool, you will still need to attend appointments regularly with our team, but these appointments are used by our team to ascertain how well the treatment is going overall.

Accessories

When looking at the accessories that you may need to keep your invisible aligners working correctly, there are only a couple required. And even then, they are not mandatory.

To help their aligners fit on their teeth correctly, many patients use chewies, round pieces of rubber or plastic which help close air bubbles between the tooth and the aligner. Also, you can use cleaning crystals to help keep your aligners sparklingly clear and assist in eliminating microscopic plaque. But as mentioned earlier, many patients find that rinsing their aligners under a cold tap is enough to keep them clean.
