Inman Aligner For Patients Near Dublin

The Inman Aligner is one of a new breed of orthodontic treatments, providing patients who have minor orthodontic irregularities with an alternative to traditional fixed braces. The removable appliance can take just 4 months to straighten teeth, by using the forces generated by a spring and a metal bar to gently push and pull the teeth into position. The time needed will depend on each individual patients orthodontic needs.

Why would I choose the Inman Aligner?

The best thing about the Inman Aligner is that generally it only takes a matter of weeks to align the patient’s teeth. Whereas, normally, braces take at least 12 months to straighten teeth, the Inman Aligner employs the latest dental technology to achieve results in as little as 16 weeks.

Another major benefit is that it the brace is removable. This means patients have the freedom to remove their appliance when they wish, if they are going to a special occasion for instance, and they therefore never have to worry about food getting stuck in their braces when they eat. This also means that patients can brush their teeth thoroughly, reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.

The Inman Aligner is one of the most advanced orthodontic treatments available and is recognised for preventing painful symptoms during the teeth straightening process. Initially, it may take a couple of days getting used to the appliance, but this will soon fade and you can enjoy getting the smile you have always wanted.

Am I a suitable candidate?

Unfortunately, the system is not suitable for all of our patients. This is because the treatment is designed to aid patients who have minor front teeth irregularities, such as crowding, a gap between their front teeth or crooked front teeth. If you need more movement or if your needs are more complex, you may not be a suitable candidate for the Inman Aligner, but we will be happy to discuss other options with you and recommend alternative treatments at Dublin18 Dental Care in Dublin.

Don’t Forget To Ask About Bonded Retainers In Dublin

After undergoing months or years of orthodontic treatment whether it was during your childhood or adulthood, bonded retainers are essential to hold the newly straightened teeth in this position permanently.  You will be fitted with both essix retainers and fixed bonded retainers to protect your new straight smile.

Why choose bonded retainers?

After completion of your orthodontic treatment a metal type bar is fixed to the back of your upper and lower teeth.  It is very discreet and it keeps your teeth straight and exactly in the position we want them to be in. Whilst wearing retainers it is important to keep an excellent oral hygiene routine just as you did when wearing braces.

Also, patients who are wearing removable retainers who have previously had orthodontic treatment elsewhere in the past, may also now consider bonded retainers instead.  Bonded retainers will prevent the need for patients to wear their removable retainers every night. This makes it far more convenient all round with the same assurance of knowing that their straightened teeth will remain in this fixed position.

We provide this service for all current orthodontic patients or new patients who no longer choose to wear their removable appliances.

Feel free to contact us at Dublin18 Dental Care in Dublin to discuss bonded retainers in more detail or to make an appointment.

Patients in Dublin Have A Free Cancer Screening For Mouth Cancer Screenings For Mouth Cancer Awareness Day 2012

On September 10th it is Mouth Cancer Awareness Day where both Dublin18 Dental Care in Dublin and many other dentists will be offering free mouth cancer screenings on this day. Mouth cancer is something that effects people all over the world, but is more common in men than in women at the moment but this is slowly changing. Unfortunately in the UK this kind of cancer has grown quicker than any other cancer in the past twenty-five years.

Detecting oral cancer

It is very important that mouth cancer is caught at an early stage because at the moment around half of the diagnosed mouth cancers were detected at later stages. If this happens them more complex treatments may be needed and the chances of beating the cancer are slimmer the later the cancer is diagnosed. Dentists are able to spot signs of oral cancer and play a very important part in oral cancer detection.

Ways of lowering risks of oral cancer

Make sure that you regularly see your dentist for check-ups and maintain a regular oral health regime. Look out for any changes in your mouth such as ulcers that are still there a few weeks late or any white marks visible. You should also use sun protection on your lips as you would to protect your skin.

Free mouth cancer screening

During Wednesday 19th September dentists up and down the country will be highlighting the importance of mouth cancer screening by offering free screenings to patients on this day. The screening itself only takes about ten minutes and these ten minutes could save your life so please do take advantage of the free screening this September. For a FREE oral health screening please contact the team at Dublin18 Dental Care in Dublin or go to your nearest dental provider.

Patients From Dublin Find Out About The Advantages Of Invisible Aligners

When Sartre wrote “hell is other people,” he was probably referring to teenagers.  Some long for the carefree days of childhood. But others, however, were more than happy to leave the republic of adolescence firmly behind us. The abject cruelty of which those under voting age are capable still sends shivers down many people’s spine, and it is often amongst such school yard tyranny that teens are first made to wear braces. That adolescent fear can leave its mark, even among non-brace wearers, and full grown adults can sometimes find themselves irrationally fearing the brace. But… what if no one knew you were wearing one?

The invisible brace

Invisible aligners are virtually unnoticeable clear braces, and they can help one achieve a naturally straight smile without any apparent change in appearance.

Advantages of invisible aligners

Aside from being invisible, they also provide a more comfortable treatment experience than traditional metal braces which can inflame and irritate the gums. Invisible aligners are also more convenient than their metal & wire counterparts as they are removable, thus bypassing the age old complaint of getting food trapped between wire and elastic. This ability to remove invisible aligners also helps with maintaining oral hygiene during treatment, something which can be neglected with metal braces and lead to future problems.

How it works

Treatment via invisible aligners consists of several clear aligners which will be changed every fortnight. Each aligner worn will gradually shift the teeth to their desired location. It is important to note that, although invisible aligners are suitable for most patients, this treatment may not be appropriate in some severe cases. A patient’s suitability, however, will easily be assessed during the initial consultation. It is following this consultation, if the patient is deemed suitable, that a patient would have several photographs and a mould of their mouth taken. It is from these images that a 3D model of their mouth will be produced. From this a simulation of a patient’s desired mouth position can be constructed, and the aligners produced will be based on this model. Here at Dublin18 Dental Care in Dublin we can offer you advice and treatment options regarding invisible aligners, so contact us today.

Patients from Dublin Learn All About Root Canal Surgery and What The Treatment is For

There is more to a tooth than what is visible to the naked eye. In fact, the majority of a tooth is the root, which is below the gum. The function of the root is to hold the tooth in place. In the middle of the tooth is dental pulp, which is made up of nerve cells and the blood vessels which provide the tooth’s blood supply. These are connected to the rest of the body by going through the tooth’s root, into the area known as the root canal. Occasionally, due to decay or silver fillings leaking, the tooth pulp can become infected. If this is left entirely untreated, the pulp can eventually die, and bacteria can then travel into the root canal, further infecting the rest of the mouth. This can lead to bad breath (due to all the bacteria in the mouth), abscesses, intense pain and even eventual tooth loss. To prevent all this, root canal surgery may be necessary when the pulp becomes infected.

What does root canal surgery involve?

After taking an x-ray and placing a thin sheet of rubber called a ‘dental dam’ over the tooth to prevent infection during the procedure, the dentist will administer a local anaesthetic to ensure that the treatment is pain-free. The next step is to make a small opening at the top of the tooth, to make the pulp accessible. Special narrow dental files are then used to remove the infected pulp, and then a special cleaning fluid may be used to clean around the new space and the root canal, to make sure that the source of the problem – the bacteria – is totally removed. The space is then filled with a permanent filling, and occasionally a crown may be used to provide extra support. This can usually be done in one visit.

Looking After Your Teeth in the City of Dublin for Years of Smiles

Your teeth are different from the rest of your body, in that they cannot regenerate new material when damaged has occurred. If you break a bone or scrape your knee your body will repair the injury, creating new bone or skin to correct the damage. However, if dental enamel is worn, broken or damaged it will not be able to regrow and will gradually become worse if left untreated.

What can I do to look after my teeth?

Caring for your teeth is incredibly easy and it just requires persistence to prevent the development of any problems. A good dental health routine should occur daily and should include:

Brushing

Brushing your teeth is the bedrock of your dental health and should take up two minutes of your time in the morning and before you go to bed. Brushing removes the build-up or plaque and debris that lead to dental health problems such as tooth decay and gum disease. For the best results brush in small circular motions, using a fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristled brush. Using a soft brush also allows you to gently clean the gums.

Flossing

Flossing is often forgotten, but it is an essential action to prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Flossing removes the plaque and debris trapped between the teeth, which cannot be reached using a toothbrush. Flossing also helps clean the gums, for complete dental health.

Mouthwash

Mouthwash is the crowning glory of your dental health routine and rinses any leftover bacteria from the mouth. Mouthwash is also a great idea if you like fresh smiling breath.

Although something you can’t do every day visiting your Dublin dentist every 6 months will also ensure that your teeth are in the very best of health and will prevent the development of any dental problems.

A daily routine is sure to keep your teeth gleaming and healthy for years to come.

Dental bridges and crowns at Dublin18 Dental Care in Dublin

There are many options available for people who have teeth that are damaged, weakened or missing. These include dental bridges and dental crowns, which are available at Dublin18 Dental Care, Dublin to our patients.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges have been used to fill gaps in the smile for many years with great success. There are different types of bridge, and we are pleased to offer our clients traditional fixed bridges and Maryland bridges:

A fixed bridge is usually used for patients who have a small number of missing teeth. The bridge is designed to blend in with the natural teeth, so patients will be unable to tell the restoration apart from the rest of their teeth.

A Maryland bridge is comprised of a false tooth attached to two wings, which are attached to the neighbouring teeth. Maryland bridges help to restore and strengthen the teeth, creating a functional and beautiful smile.

Dental crowns

Crowns are a popular cosmetic dental treatment at Dublin18 Dental Care. They are used to strengthen teeth damaged or weakened by injury or decay. Crowns are sometimes known as caps due to the way they sit over the teeth. The treatment process requires decayed tissue to first be removed and the tooth cleaned. The new crown will be based on tooth impressions and will be fixed in place once ready.

Crowns are available in different materials, including porcelain, ceramic and precious metals. Porcelain crowns are one of the more popular choices of dental crown because they are strong, durable and provide an excellent level of smile aesthetics.

At Dublin18 Dental Care we can offer our patients crowns on the same day. We are one of the 16 clinics in Ireland with the technology of the Cerec machine to enable us to perform this procedure. This means no more tray impressions which can sometimes be uncomfortable for our patients. We can simply scan the prepared tooth and watch the crown being made with our amazing modern technology. Gone are the days of waiting with a temporary crown for two to three weeks.

If you would like to learn more about dental bridge or crown treatment, please get in touch with our team today to learn how we can help with your smile.
